“A Tough Time to Teach”

We live in a society today that, in many areas, has taken away the proper structure of interaction between manager and subordinate. It used to be that managers were left to manage their employees and upper management would stay out of the way as long as the desired results came through. Throughout the last 10-15 years, and frankly it may be longer that that, we have seen the inmates take over the asylum, so to speak. employees have much more latitude to do less and get more than in previous generations. These are catered to because we do not want a fuss or hassle over anything at all. We are starting to see this enter into the education world where teachers are having to fight their students just to learn basic lessons these children will need to succeed in life. It is a dangerous world where people are not allowed to teach. Teaching happens everywhere in society. In everyday business some teaching happens. As we think about teaching happening daily in the real world that brings us to the teaching of the word of God. Are we to stop teaching the word because people do not want to listen? Certainly not! Paul wrote to Timothy, in his second letter, that Timothy was to "Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables."(2 Tim. 4:2-4) The thoughts of this passage bring to our minds a fervency and urgency to share the word always to those around us. As we have already stated this can be a challenge to us today due to the deaf ears many are turning to any type of teaching. What an arrogant generation that thinks at age 15 they know all they need to know and they have no need of a teacher. This makes the job difficult without a doubt, however we need to maintain our efforts to evangelize the area we live in so that it cannot be said of us "You never mentioned Him to me".  We must take courage to know that God will be with us in our effrots to teach the truth to a lost and dying world. May God help us all in our efforts to teach His word to this world both in our actions and our words.
